Discover the most unique Economy SMP where time is money
Economy SMPs have been very popular since the early 2020s and have now become deeply entrenched in the Minecraft server scene. Lately, one server after another has been popping up, all based on the same concept: battle against others and become the richest. Intense PvP, fast progression, and an inflationary economy—that’s how you’d picture a typical Economy SMP. It’s pretty simple, just like the rules, but it’s fun and attracts a lot of people.
For a long time, the Skydinse network lacked a proper PvP mode, until we, too, decided to jump on the bandwagon. As a result, development on an Economy SMP began in 2024—but in Skydinse style.
The Time SMP
A unique game mode inspired by the 2011 sci-fi/action film “In Time,” which stands out from other SMPs of this kind—primarily due to one special gameplay element: time is money.
Following its release in May 2025, the mode brought many new players to Skydinse, who immediately plunged into the dystopian world of Time SMP.
Everyone starts on the server with 6 hours of remaining lifetime. The current time can be found on the right side of the scoreboard or above the players’ heads. If your time runs out, you’ll be banned from the SMP for about a day. But you’ll want to avoid that—so dive right into the economy!
How to Get Started
You have about 6 hours to figure out how the server works. Sounds stressful, right? It might be a little at first, but you’ll quickly figure out how to stay afloat.
With your starter gear, the best way to begin your adventure is to teleport straight into the world by going straight ahead from the “Enter World” NPC or using /rtp. There, you can gather your first materials and sell them with /sell to familiarize yourself with the value of the items and the currency in general. You’ll notice that selling items quickly gives you the time you need to keep them from expiring.
However, not every item is worth the same. Selling common items like dirt won’t get you very far in the long run. Besides, that would be way too boring...
“The Meta”
You’ve probably heard the term “meta” before. Maybe you’re wondering what it means when people ask in chat what the current meta is. To tie this directly into the topic of item value differences: Some items or blocks are worth significantly more than dirt, or can be farmed efficiently—provided the effort isn’t too high. If this results in a good return on investment, that’s a meta.
Well, on Time SMP, there shouldn’t always be just one meta—there should be room for creativity. Many factions have already set up several incredibly impressive farms and machines that more or less automate their income—in that sense, they’re money-making machines. Sounds exciting! There, you can see just what you can achieve once you’ve gotten into the swing of things and perhaps even joined a faction or founded your own.
You can figure out for yourself which items are currently worth building a farm for. You can check the current item prices at any time with /worth and sort them by value or by the most recent changes. As a general rule, we won’t just nerf an existing meta by lowering item values. That can only happen in the case of unintended loopholes in the game that would harm the economy. We want to avoid significant inflation as much as possible.
We want variety. Every week or every two weeks, we want to adjust the stats of a few items that are well-suited for building machines or that can be crafted from them. As I said, though, that doesn’t mean we’ll immediately nerf an older meta just for that. However, over the long term, we want to see more and more attractive metas emerge.
